Newcroft Primary Academy – Curriculum Vision
At Newcroft, we teach the core knowledge of the National Curriculum through creative, cross curricular themes. This core knowledge equips them with the ability to showcase their reasoning skills. Our curriculum aims to provide a range of experiences to enhance and enrich learning, from excursions or visits within our locality, to welcoming visitors on site. We want our pupils to develop their independence and resilience and we promote this through these experiences as well as our many residential opportunities and engaging starting points for lessons.
We encourage and foster pupils’ creative thinking, allowing them to explore and respond to the world we live in, through developing curiosity.
We never put a ceiling on what pupils can achieve; we stretch them so that each pupil can reach their full potential. We adapt our curriculum to suit the needs of all our learners, which allow equality of opportunity for every child; no pupil is left behind.
The curriculum is implemented through rich engaging topics, which clearly outline a progression of knowledge, as pupils move through the school.
We make links across our curriculum areas to the topic themes. We teach subjects explicitly, where the development of knowledge takes precedence.
We recognise children’s prior knowledge and provide first hand learning experiences, alongside quality first teaching to engage every child in a curriculum that is personalised for them.
Knowledge organisers dictate clearly, the topic knowledge and key vocabulary pupils should know and understand by the end of a topic. Our curriculum gives our pupils opportunities to revisit and commit their newly acquired knowledge to long term memory.
Our medium term plans and long term plans are used by teachers to consistently apply the curriculum at Newcroft.
