Welcome to Reception! We hope you have all had a fantastic Summer! We can't wait to get to know you and welcome you to Newcroft.
This term our topic is called ‘Fantastic Me!’. We will be learning about; you and your families, and our bodies. We will be creating self-portraits and finding out what makes you special. We will be learning all the routines of each day at school. We will begin our exciting reading, phonics and maths learning and discovering all of the brilliant things there are to do every day- what an exciting time!
We ask that parents ensure that PE kit is in school all week and it will be sent home as required for washing and at the end of a half term.
Mrs Johnson’s class have PE on a Wednesday
Mrs Cran’s class have PE on a Wednesday
Please support you child to read one of their reading books at least three times a week, and record in their home-school diary, for us to celebrate in school. As the phonics scheme books get longer you may want to read half of the book during one session and finish it at another session. The children have a white labelled phonics book that they should be able to finish in one session. The library book is for you to read to your child. Please also work on some phonics/reading activities on Busythings.
The main focus of our homework will be reading and phonics. Please read regularly at home with your child. At least 3 times a week will ensure they achieve the regular reader awards. Please record each time you read in their reading diary. Each Friday we will send home the new sounds and ‘Red’ words that we have learnt and some activities to complete. We will also send either a writing task or some online homework to be completed on our Busythings subscription. Once a half term there will be an optional creative task for you to complete with your child. We will also send out other optional whole school homework through the year.
