This term we will be continuing our learning all about 'Out of India' in our Geography-based topic.
Alongside this in English, we will be reading 'The Wheels on the Tuk Tuk' by Kabir Sehgal, 'The Tiger Child' by Joanna Troughton and 'Runaway Chapatti' by Susan Price. Linking to these text, we will be writing a rhyming poem, a narrative and a set of instructions of how to make chapattis. The children will be focusing on continuing to apply basic punctuation, using conjunctions, contractions and adverbials.
In Maths, we will learning all about place value including tens and ones and comparing numbers. Alongside this, we will be focusing on our arithmetic skills to use the four operations effectively using a range of methods.
Other areas of the curriculum this term include creating batik printing in Art and Design, learning about animals and their needs for survival in Science and conducting comparisons to our local area in Shepshed to Agra in India.
To enhance our topic further, we are really excited and looking forward to our Bollywood Dance Workshop and learning about the story of Rama and Sita towards the end of the half term.
PE Days
We ask that parents ensure P.E kit is in school all week and sent home as required for washing through the term and at the end of a half term. A reminder that we ask that parents to send their child with a warm jumper and jogging bottoms for outdoor P.E sessions.
Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Monday and Friday.
Miss Marlow's class have PE on a Monday and Thursday.
Reading
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Homework
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practise as often as possible.
