Welcome to Year 4!
This term we will be learning all about the Romans in our History-based topic 'What Did the Romans Do for Us?'
Alongside this in English, we will be reading 'Escape from Pompeii' by Christina Balit. Linking to these text, we will be writing a narrative, a non-chronological report and instructions on how to make a Roman themed book sleeve.
In Maths, we will learning all about place value including reading, writing and partitioning numbers up to 10,000. Alongside this, we will be focusing on our times tables and learning these off by heart ready for our multiplication check in the summer.
Other areas of the curriculum this term include creating a Roman themed book sleeve in Design Technology, learning about classifying living things in Science and in Geography we will compare the East Midlands region to the Campania region in Italy.
To enhance our topic further, we are really excited about and looking forward to our Roman workshop later on in the half term.
PE Days
We ask that parents ensure P.E kit is in school all week and sent home as required for washing through the term and at the end of a half term. A reminder that we ask that parents to send their child with a warm jumper and jogging bottoms for outdoor P.E sessions.
Mrs Thompson and Mrs Wicks' class have PE on a Wednesday and Friday.
Miss Porter's class have PE on a Monday and Wednesday.
Reading
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Homework
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practise as often as possible.
