Our topic this half term is 'Watch out, invaders about!' We will be focusing on the history of The Vikings and the impact that they had. The children will be focussing on observational drawings of longboats in Art and investigating settlements in Britain during this time in our History lessons together. In English, we will be reading and learning about Beowulf and its setting across Scandinavia - we cannot wait to read this to the children and capture their imaginations during creative writing tasks during this half term.

We are continually working on and practising our times tables in preparation for the Year 4 Multiplication Check. The children are encouraged to regularly test their times tables knowledge to see how they have improved and what they need to work on next! Please use the children's times table packs for fun and exciting ways of revising times tables up to 12x12. We are regularly 'battling' against other classes and year groups in school on Times Tables Rockstars, please encourage your child to play as often as they can!
In addition to practising times tables, we are also regularly revisiting and working on spelling the Year 3 and 4 Common Exception Words to ensure all of the children can spell, define and use these words accurately. Please refer to the back of the homework book for a copy of these spellings. The children are regularly tested in class as part of our ongoing English assessments.
We ask that parents ensure that PE kit is in school all week and sent home as required for washing through the term and at the end of a half term. A reminder that as the weather gets colder, we ask that parents send their child with a warm jumper and jogging bottoms for outdoor PE sessions. Mrs Atkinson's class have PE on Monday's and Friday's. Miss Eccleshall's class have PE on Wednesday's and Friday's.
If you have any concerns, questions or queries about your child's progress, please get in touch via WEDUC or the office.
