Miss Hawksworth and Mr Pratt hope that all our Year 5 families have had a wonderful Easter break. We are very much look forward to returning to school for the Summer term. Year 5 have worked extremely hard so far this year and we hope they return with this same excellent mind-set. The children have made us incredibly proud of their resilience in returning to school after the previous lockdown. This resulted in them securing skills and producing some brilliant work for our Spring 2 topic ‘Visionary Victorians’.
We would like to remind parents that children are expected to read a minimum of 3 times per week, which should be school banded books or using Bug Club, and this must be noted and signed in the diary in order to participate in the weekly competition.
We look forward to another successful term ahead and thank you for your ongoing continued support to our school community.
This term, we will be introducing our new topic called ‘Olympus Odyssey’. This is an exciting topic where the children will learn all about the Ancient Greeks focussing on early European civilisation, Greek mythology and Greece itself. We will be enriching this topic by reading various non-fiction texts and ‘Who Let the Gods Out’ by Maz Evans.
On our return, we will also be continuing our 'Reading for Pleasure' text from World Book Day called My Brother is a Superhero by David Solomons.
We ask that parents ensure that PE kit is in school all week and sent home as required for washing through the term and at the end of a half term. A reminder that as the weather gets warmer, we ask that parents send their child with a suitable pair of PE outdoor shoes which differ to their normal outdoor shoes.
Year 5’s PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday weekly.
Children should bring their PE kits in on Monday and return home on Friday for washing.
