Welcome to the first term in Reception! We hope you have had a wonderful summer, and we can’t wait to get started and begin the year together.
This half term, our topic is ‘Who Am I?’ We will be exploring what makes each of us special, as well as talking about our families and the wider community. We will spend lots of time developing our prime areas of learning and settling into our new school routines.
During our discovery time, we will be exploring our new classroom, both indoors and outdoors. Through songs, practical activities and stories, we will learn more about ourselves and what makes each of us fantastic!
We will let you know as soon as Forest School is due to start and what the children will need to bring in.
We are really looking forward to this half term and to supporting the children as they begin their exciting school journey.
Both Reception classes have PE on Fridays.
Please ensure that your child has the correct PE kit, suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities.
Please support your child to read one of their reading books at least three times a week and record this in their home-school diary. This allows us to celebrate their reading achievements in school.
As the phonics scheme books become longer, you may wish to read half of the book during one session and finish it during another. The children also have a white-labelled phonics book, which they should be able to complete in one session.
Thank you for your support in encouraging a love of reading at home.
For most of the year, homework will consist of reading and phonics activities set weekly. All homework will be recorded in the home-school diaries and sent home in the homework folder.
Please also look out for optional homework activities, which you may wish to complete with your child at home.
