Autumn Term 2 2026

This half term our topic is called ‘Nurturing Nurses’ and it is a history -based topic of learning studying how famous nurses helped to improve our hospitals. We will be looking at different famous nurses and their place in history.

In English, our reading texts will be 'Little Red’ by Bethan Woollvin, ‘The True Story of the Three Little Pigs’ by Jon Scieszka The children will be writing a description, a newspaper report and a diary entry.

In Maths, we will be learning about shape, position and direction, fractions and statistics. We will carry on  learning our times tables in Year 2 with focuses on 2s, 5s and 10s - the children will also play on Times Tables Rockstars to support their practice and mathematical development. 

Across the curriculum, other areas of learning include Materials in Science, creating a sketch of Florence Nightingale in Art and "Why is light important to people?’' in RE. We will also be meeting a real modern- day nurse and will be going on our trip to the National Justice Museum in connection with our British Values topic.

PE Days

Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Monday and Tuesday.

Mrs Cran's class have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Reading

This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term. 

Homework

Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practice as often as possible.
