This half term our topic is called ‘Out of India!’ and it is a geography-based topic of learning studying India. We will be looking at where India is located, what the weather is like, and comparing Agra in India to Shepshed.
In English, our reading texts will be 'Wheels on the Tuk Tuk’ by Kabir Sehgai, ’Tiger Child’ by Joanna Troughton, and ‘The Runaway Chapatti’ by Susan Price. The children will be learning about and writing poetry, narratives and instructions.
In Maths, we will be learning about place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. We begin learning our times tables in Year 2 with focuses on 2s, 5s and 10s - the children will also play on Times Tables Rockstars to support their practice and mathematical development.
Across the curriculum, other areas of learning include Animals and their Needs for Survival in Science, creating an Indian design in Batik in Art and Why do we need to give thanks?’' in RE.
PE Days
Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Monday and Wednesday.
Mrs Cran's class have PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
Reading
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Homework
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practice as often as possible.
