Welcome to Year 4!

Curriculum

This half term, we will be learning all about the Romans in our topic 'What did the Romans do for us?'  and explore the Ancient Romans in our History lessons in further detail. This will conclude with our Roman workshop, which will take place in school.

In English, our text is 'Escape From Pompeii' by Christina Balit. The children will be learning about and then writing a narrative, a non-chronological report and instructions. 

In Maths, the children will be learning about place value and moving onto addition and subtraction. We will focus on our times tables, working towards our Multiplication Check at the end of the year. 

In the wider curriculum, the children will broaden their knowledge in a range of subjects. Specifically, they will make their own Roman-themed book sleeve in DT and learn how to talk about themselves and family in French.

PE 

Both classes have PE on a Wednesday and a Thursday.

Please ensure that your child's PE kit remains in school throughout the week.

Homework

All spellings homework is set on a Monday and will be tested the following Monday; the spelling rule linked to the weekly spellings is taught by the class teacher.. Occasionally, optional creative homework will be given.

We also encourage the children to read three times weekly, as part of our Regular Readers competition.

The children also need to play on TTRS each week as part of their homework. This will support the children with their fluency of times tables ready for the multiplication check.
