This term we will be learning all about 'Magnificent Mexcio' in our Geography-based topic.
Alongside this in English, we will be reading 'The Day the Crayons Came Home' by Drew Daywalt and 'Julian is a Mermaid' by Jessica Love. Linking to these text, we will be writing a letter from the crayons to Duncan, a character description of a mermaid and a non-chronological report all about Mexico. Through these text types, the children will be building on using conjunctions, punctuation and different sentence types.
In Maths, we will be beginning our learning about shape, position and direction before moving on to fractions. Within out learning we will be using concrete objects and pictorial representations to deepen the children's knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts. Alongside this maths learning, we will also be having a weekly times tables sessions where we will be focussing on our 2, 5 and 10 times table.
Other areas of the curriculum this term include a Mexican inspired pouch using sewing in Design Technology, learning about Living Things and their Habitats and plants in Science and conducting a study of Mexico in Geography.
PE Days
We ask that parents ensure P.E kit is in school all week and sent home as required for washing through the term and at the end of a half term. A reminder that we ask that parents to send their child with a warm jumper and jogging bottoms for outdoor P.E sessions.
Mrs Woodward's class have PE on a Monday and Friday.
Miss Marlow and Mrs Kirkham's class have both of their PE lessons on a Monday.
Reading
This half term, the children will continue to take part in our Regular Readers initiative. We would like to remind parents that children need to read 3 times throughout the week in order for children to earn their Dojos and earn their invitation to this term's film showing, for consistently being a regular reader, during the last week of term.
Homework
Weekly homework will be set on a Monday and due in the following Monday. Please check in your child’s home school diary for the insert each week - this will also be set out via WEDUC to parents each week. Your child will also be given weekly spellings on a Monday. These spellings will then be tested on the following Monday during our weekly spelling lesson. Times Tables Rockstars logins are stuck in the back of Home School Diaries, please encourage your children to practise as often as possible.
