Spring Term 1 2025

Curriculum

This half term, our topic is 'Seismic Space' linking to our science topic all about space, where we delve into the solar system and the planets, the motion of the Earth and planets, night and day and the moon. We will also be looking into how ideas about the solar system have changed over time. We will be writing an informal letter, a setting description, as well as an explanation text linked to our class text, 'George's Key to the Universe' by Lucy and Stephen Hawking. For mathematics, we will begin with statistics, before moving onto geometry and investigating shape and finishing off with fractions. Throughout spring, we will continue to revisit key arithmetic skills taught throughout autumn in arithmetic sessions to further embed our mathematical knowledge.

PE 

We ask that parents ensure their child's PE kit is in school all week and sent home, as required, for washing through the term and at the end of a half term. A reminder, that as the weather is colder, we
ask that parents send their child with a warm jumper and jogging bottoms for outdoor PE sessions.

Mr Akiens' class have PE on a Tuesday and a Friday.
Mr Preece's class have PE on a Tuesday and a Wednesday.

Homework

All homework is set on a Monday and will be due the following Monday.

The children have homework set weekly, in either English or mathematics.

We also encourage the children to read three times weekly, as part of our Regular Readers competition.

Spellings are also given out weekly, on a Monday, and will be tested on the following Monday; the spelling rule linked to the weekly spellings is taught by the class teacher.

The children also need to play on TTRS each week as part of their homework.
