Phonics

For fantastic phonics online games and resources! We use these games in school every day in our phonics sessions. 

A fun set of videos for Reception children to help them with early reading and phonics. Simply watch the videos and join in with the Alphablocks!

A very useful website if your child is learning Early Reading and Phonics. This website provides lots of different games for your child to play depending on which Phase they are learning at school.

Phonics Bloom has interactive online phonics games to help teach children the relationship between letters and sounds and develop the skills needed to read and write.

Twink has some superb phonics resources. We recommend the phonics sound cards, which will help you to mimic a speed sounds session for the phase your child is working on. If you are unsure, please contact your child’s class teacher via WEDUC.

Writing

Pobble 365 is a great learning resource to stimulate writing. It is used by teachers at Newcroft to support ideas for extended writing. Children can write stories based around the images and clips they see. We love this resource!

Reading

Children (or big children!) can instantly stream an incredible collection of stories. All stories are free to stream on your desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. This is a great resource for when you run out of new books at home!

A wealth of resources including a range of stories and poems read by poets and authors for your child to enjoy listening to!

Spelling

Classroom secrets is a fantastic resource that we use at school for grammar, spelling, comprehension etc. etc. You name it, we use it! It is now open to families for free.

Spelling frame is a superb website which allows you to create custom lists, as well as practicing spellings for particular year groups. It follows the National Curriculum spelling lists which we use at Newcroft.

General Resources

This is a great website for promoting creativity and stimulating the imagination. There is a library of images and questions that can be used to stimulate discussion and develop vocabulary, or as a prompt for creative writing, a reading comprehension activity or as a starting point for understanding a wider curriculum. Simply click on a picture you like and have a go at answering the questions!

BBC Live Lessons have some superb resources to support English at home for all ages. 

Oak Academy have recorded lessons, great for supporting our home learning at Newcroft as they follow the National Curriculum.
